"David Taylor" (the missing iPhone ringtone)...
September of last year, I called out the fact that the one acceptable non-musical ringtone I’d heard from the iPhone was the one on the commercial, and that it was criminally unavailable as an actual pre-installed ringtone.  (I dubbed it the “David Taylor” because that’s who the disembodied iPhone hands seemed to be taking most of their calls from.) This...

"Wristcutters: A Love Story" (2006)
If you go in expecting typical indie whatever, you might be pleasantly surprised by this atypically sweet, attractive, well-cast, nicely-polished romantic and uplifting afterlife tale.

Reducing Music to Math
Somewhat related to Three being a Magic Number, Science Daily reports on the research of a team of music professors who have devised a complex method of mapping musical systems onto mathematical ones.  If I were a smart man, I’d learn more about it.  There’s a nice picture. Regarding 3, it really is magic.  3 is the stuff of the swing.  Swing is the stuff of jazz.  Jazz is magic....

Fireland's Rejected Twitter Post No. 444
fireland: Either someone spilled a Shamrock Shake in my jacuzzi or I just fucked a leprechaun. I’m enjoying Josh “Fireland aka 2:42 aka Damn Injuns” Allen’s Rejected Twitter Posts on his tumblelog equally as much as entirely less or more than but not equal to his vetted and certified For-Air Twitter Posts.  Because we all talk a good game, but he actually plays the sport.

Kubrick : centrifuge :: Jobs : iPhone?
Gruber links today to an audio interview with renowned skeptic James Randi in which Randi compares the egomaniacal whims of Kubrick to the egomaniacal whims of Steve Jobs.  Fair enough. According to Randi, the shot of Frank jogging on the centrifuge in one of Kubrick’s original cuts of 2001: A Space Odyssey was 11 minutes in length, as Kubrick intended to illustrate the tediousness of life...

Redid
I’ve been working with Master Themesman Cameron Hunt on redesigning my tumblelog, and earlier today we agreed it was ready to go.  We started talking about this back in December and I immediately knew I was in for a good creative experience with Cameron when he admitted that “experimental tumblelog design is like Cameron crack.” So here it is.  A new theme. Oh, and there’s a new logo:...

Krasinski Cutting his Teeth and Expanding his...
The New York Times has a brief and cursory interview with 28-year-old John Krasinski (you know him as ‘Jim’ from The Office) on adapting Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men for the screen.  DFW fans will lap up any DFW poop they can, and I am one, so here it is.Krasinski: It’s basically a cinematic experience where you go behind the scenes of what it’s like to be a guy —...

April Fool's Day Pranks Gone Wrong (excerpt)
From corporate-casual:Pete K. baked a cake for his friend using salt instead of sugar. His friend thanked him for the cake, but was very full from lunch. He never ended up eating any of the cake, and threw the whole thing away without taking a bite. Pete K. is not very good in the kitchen, and the hilarious cake took him many hours to make.
