Herbie Hancock jams with his Fairlight CMI while Quincy Jones looks on (1983)
Herbie says:
These instruments were designed for people to use. For people to use. You know, it’s just a tool, another tool, the way an axe is a tool. An axe can be a tool to cut wood to build a house, or it could be a tool to slaughter your neighbor. The same thing—a synthesizer can be a tool to really hurt peoples’ ears or interfere with their lives, or it can be a tool to make a really nice-sounding instrument that can really effect people in a positive way. It all depends on the person that’s using it.

The CTO will ensure the safety of our networks and will lead an interagency effort, working with chief technology and chief information officers of each of the federal agencies, to ensure that they use best-in-class technologies and share best practices.”

Whodini - “Friends”
This one goes out to someone who I helped me figure out a problem. He knows who he is. Okay, it’s Neven.
These are the rhythms of progress. Sometimes losing, and being shown to lose, shifts something in the minds of those watching as a small group is punished for daring to dream of full civil equality. In this battle we have already had far more defeats than victories. But each time, we have come closer to our goal. And in the hearts and minds and souls of so many, we have changed consciousness for ever.

But wait. An update from the campaign, also via Jeff: “Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied. Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.”
