I got hired to make this video for a new car audio gadget from JBL and they wanted it set in a carwash. So naturally, I cast my good friend dalas verdugo of Portland OR, one of my favorite people.
I’ll be honest—I never thought they’d go for it. But they did, and I think dalas is perfectly charming (and so is his lovely wife anja in her cameo at the end).

Pilotwings Hang Glider Level (“Moods in Flight: Raise Me Up”)
Mark Nichols’ post reminded me to remind you that this SNES classic has finally, fucking finally been released for the Wii virtual console.
It also reminded me to remind you that this music is pure jazz. You love it.
If you’re in the mood for something funkier, try on the Jetpack (“Rocketboost My Heart”).
Sometimes, very rarely, I make myself laugh like only I can. It would please me if this got zero stars and zero hearts because I would know that it was my own.
And I’m very earnestly going to start saying things are “the bump” and calling people “dishes”. That will be mine.
Related to this, I got to work on something with Noah a few months ago that will finally see light next month and is one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. TEASER ALERT.
Some foreign companies flatter me by borrowing my ideas to sell their products.
- Top row: Robert Andersen (the design guru at Square) texted me this animated GIF last night, with a Japanese guy being cheeky just like my friend Jason did in the Square video. Upon further inspection, it was the work of some shitbags at Paygate, a Square ripoff, who even went to the trouble of taking my music and doing what we call in the industry a “stinky pinky”. Click through to their version of me and Jason. It’s striking and very Japanese. The sound effects kill me.
- Middle row: The day before, Twitter user @mishalkp shared (in a pretty clever way) the brazen artistry of some buttfaces at Nokia, who have introduced their JAMBOX competitor with a video so stealtastic I can’t believe it came from a Fortune 500 company.
- Bottom row: This one is a twofer. The shot depicted is a tasteful homage to my Flipboard video, in something made by some pissfuckers at a horrible, horrible company called Wimdu who wholesale cloned Airbnb’s business model and for good measure, whole chunks of dialogue from our video. Good job, Samver brothers, you champions of the entrepreneurial spirit!
No, but I have fun. I love these guys.
This is Sox. He is the enormously talented UX Director at Vimeo. I love following Sox on Tumblr. I think you might, too.
RCA
She was a dependable cable, the RCA or phono connector. Been around since the 1940s, with her stout, sturdy pin you knew wasn’t going anywhere. You could trust her with your tapes and CDs and video games if that was your thing.
I just pulled out the last of my RCA cables. Now I’m left with a box of them—a quarter-mile of left, right, red, green and blue in six-foot segments, each with its own unique personality. This one’s for the record player. This one was for the cable box and these ones looked great with the SNES.
But I’m all HDMI now. Feels good, too. Feels right.
