UNFILTERED a guy called Jeff came up with what he called the “tact filter” theory 10 years ago, and merlin brought it up on 43folders today. i can’t get it off my mind. the theory goes: -NORMAL people apply tact to what they say, so as not to offend -NERDS apply tact to what they hear, so as not to be offended and that’s it. NERDS can communicate openly and tactlessly with each other and mean no harm. NORMALS can be tactful with each other and hear no harm. when NERDS and NORMALS try and talk, things go wrong. but i’m having a difficult time figuring out where i fit in to these types. on the one hand, i’m overly sensitive to the intentions of the person talking, but usually make wrong assumptions about how they will receive what i’m saying and i end up oh fuck it i’m a nerd.
