WIDESCREEN LETTERBOX
i installed the Widescreen plugin for Apple’s Mail.app last year and became an instant convert to the 3-pane side-by-side layout, rather than stacked layout that exists out of the box and threatens to crush every message under the stack of mail with which it was delivered.
i anxiously await the Leopard-compatible update to Widescreen (having resorted to turning my head sideways to read all my email), and just saw today on the developer’s site that the plug-in is not only coming soon, but has been renamed has been called probably since i started using it, “Letterbox.” i think this is an awesome and clever name for the product - because it is a non-groan-inducing play on the metaphor of the mailbox, because it keeps with the cinematic theme of its characteristic “Widescreen” and because i totally geek out over all things aspect ratio. so, nice move, Aaron Harnly. can’t wait to use it.
