When one sequence in a sweded movie needed to appear damaged, Kopit and his team used CG to add distortion effects to the footage. But the results weren’t convincing. “Michel said, ‘Well, just scratch the tape.’ So we unrolled the VHS tape, scratched it, and erased some of the magnetic elements with different-sized magnets. It looked much better than what we had come up with in post.”
