BMX Bandits (1983)

Neven reminded me the other day about this Australian movie inexplicably in constant rotation on American TV in the 80s, so I found a torrent and watched it on the plane.  And how does it hold up?  Oh, it holds up, my friends.

BMX Bandits is the story of three teens in primary colors who happen upon a stolen crate of walkie-talkies.  They also ride BMX bikes and antagonize a fat rich kid who likes ice cream, sort of a proto-Francis from Pee Wee’s.

The girl in this promo with the hind quarters of a sheepdog on her head is a 16-year-old Nicole Kidman in her first movie role.

That the fat rich kid eventually joins forces with the gang to help bring the bad guy to justice is one of the many instances of the good nature pervasive throughout this “gem” of a movie.  These Bandits will steal your heart.

Worth noting, Neven suggested and I fully agree that Apple should offer VHS rips of 80s movies on the Apple TV and even charge $5.99 at a premium for media-savvy nostalgic hipster assholes.
