The worst thing you can do (and I’m guilty of doing this, as many people are) is to add a preference for every single damn thing that comes up. ‘Oh boy, I added this new thing, but 20% of the people don’t like it, so I’ll have a switch somewhere.’ Whenever you have a preference, it means you punted—it means you couldn’t decide—it means you’re not really doing your job as an app designer. Your job as an app designer is to figure out how the thing oughtta work.
