on Mary Bucholtz, a UCSB linguist who has been studying nerds for 12 years:

assuming that everyone has a Simpsons character with whom they closely identify, i concluded today, after some soulsearching, that mine is Comic Book Guy. if anyone has a problem with that, i’ll have you know i have an iPhone.
