Stevie Wonder “Happy Birthday”

Did you know? Stevie recorded his far superior “Happy Birthday” to bolster support for the creation of a national holiday to honor the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is one of only three federal holidays in the U.S. to commemorate an individual person.

From the wiki:

Senator Jesse Helms (R-North Carolina) led opposition to the bill and questioned whether King was important enough to receive such an honor. He also criticized King’s opposition to the Vietnam War and accused him of espousing “action-oriented Marxism”.

But this day is about love, not whatever that was.

Listen to the whole, glorious track.
