Dazed and Confused II: The Spiritual Sequel

News fromĀ Vulture, Richard Linklater will be shooting a “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused (1993) in Austin this summer. The setting: freshman year of college, 1980. All new characters, but just as certain to resonate (anachronistically) with a generation as its predecessor.

In honor of Dazed, as part of Engage the Reader Friday, I ask you which, from the incredible array of characters, you most closely identified with when you first saw the movie.

The answer for me is multipart: as a freshman, the wide-eyed and uncomfortably feminine Mitch Kramer (Wiley Wiggins), then once I hit puberty and my heritage caught up and punched me in the face, the angsty faux-intellectual Mike Newhouse (Adam Goldberg, clearly), and once I lost my idealism to roids, Nicky Katt’s Clint Bruno.
